5.1.21 AGM Update

Happy New Year, hopefully.

Since we are still strictly locked down and distracted by bigger issues Lyn and I feel it is inappropriate to hold our AGM on Zoom in 2 weeks as planned: we will wait until face to face meetings are permitted so the open discussions we usually enjoy will be possible. Meantime however we have drawn up an Annual Development Plan for 2021 which you should receive via an Organise mailing: I would be very happy to receive any feedback/ideas/suggestions.

Also, of course, Senedd elections are coming up on 6th May 2021 and we have 2 very worthy candidates to support: Catrin Maby for Monmouth Constituency and Mary Anne Brocklesby for South Wales East Region. Campaign tactics and actions are now being rolled out across the area and the more of us who join in the better Labour’s chances of success. We need Labour women in the Senedd, and local women with the wealth of experience Mary Anne and Catrin share will be invaluable to the health and well-being of Wales.

27.11.20 Update

Well, there has been no interest expressed in attending the Welsh Labour Conference next February: another call for delegates will go out if, as seems likely, the conference dates change.

The agenda for our AGM  (23.1.21) will be sent out just after Christmas'

November 2020

Hello all

It's a long time since we communicated and now, while Wales is reasonably open, seems a good time to catch up. I do hope you're all coping, at least most of the time. It's difficult, isn't it?

There are a few issues to address: women's activity in Monmouthshire; decisions to be taken by WF members; and plans to make for the future. If this message reaches women who have recently left the party please let me know and I will remove you from the WF mailing list.

Selection of  Senedd candidate

Huge congratulations to Mary Anne Brocklesby on her selection as the Senedd candidate for South Wales East. She will do a great job! Next, good luck to the 4 women short-listed  for the Monmouth CLP Senedd candidature, all of whom would work effectively and hard for the people of Monmouthshire: just make sure you vote!

Selection of delegates to Welsh Labour Conference

Details of our WF delegate for the Conference (26-28.2.21 in Llandudno)need to reach Adam Greenwood, CLP secretary, by 14.12.20. We therefore ask anybody interested to please send me a brief statement with the name of a seconder and your reasons before Friday 27th November. If there is only one candidate they will be our delegate, if more than one expresses interest all the statements will be circulated and you will be asked to vote.

AGM

Our AGM is due in January 2021. We suggest it takes place on 23rd January via Zoom hosted by Lyn (details to follow). The meeting will be short, probably just re-electing officers, briefly discussing our Annual Plan for 2021 and hearing 2020's Women's Officer report on WF activity.

For the time being Lyn Tanner (Women's Officer), Gwyneth Marsden (WF treasurer), Karen Windall (WF secretary) and Claire de Casparis (branch officer for Bryn y Cwm) will remain in post but we would be very happy to make way for others: please let us know if you're interested.

We also need a new Social Media secretary and branch officers for Lower Wye and Monmouth branches. Again, please let us know if you would like to take on these roles.

Thank you all for your support over the years. Lyn and I both feel that our face-to-face meetings in Monmouth have provided a friendly, safe and stimulating environment for discussion of women's issues while encouraging participation in local and national politics. We really hope these meetings can be reinstated soon and look forward to being together safely again.

Karen Windall and Lyn Tanner

Remember: please send me a short statement if you wish to attend Welsh Labour conference in February, by 27.11.20.

And let us know if you wish to take on any WF officer role.
